Halloween 2012

Halloween was super fun this year!  We had a Minion (from Despicable Me), Merida (from Brave), and She-Ra Princess of Power (from the TV show She-Ra)

Cadence made my life easy and bought her costume this year.  I'm glad she choose this route because I barely finished the other girls costumes on time!  

 

She didn't want to wear the red wig that they had available to purchase (it was itchy so I don't blame her) so we bought a can of red hair spray and curled her super short hair.  I think it turned out great though it did take three rounds of shampoo to get that stuff out of her hair.

Rory has been begging to be She-Ra for Halloween for most of the year.  She watches the show on Netflix any chance she gets and we have several foam swords that make acting like She-ra very fun for our girls here at the house. I knew that I was going to have to make this costume and it wasn't super easy. 

This is the first time I have used the applique stitch on my sewing machine.  I bought the leotard, appliqued the star/flower thing on and added a blue stone we found in the jewelry making aisle at Michaels.  The skirt and belt weren't too hard (I attached them to each other).  Heck even the cape was pretty easy (it attaches with velcro on the shoulders).  The wrist cuffs were the second hardest part to sew.

The headdress/crown thing was a bit harder.  I lucked out and found a foam crown at Michaels in the glittery gold and found some 8x10 sheets of the same gold foam on the next aisle!  I cut the pointy parts of the crown off and made the wing shapes and then hot glued them to the crown.  Add the red stone (also found at Michaels) and we were golden!  ;o)  

I was pretty surprised by how many people knew who Rory was.  Most of them were of my generation or older and it was cute to see faces light up and say, "Hey! It's She-Ra!!"  

Beckah was easier in the sewing department.  Couldn't find a yellow hoodie for her in her size anywhere so I made one out of some fleece.  The goggles were a whole 'nother story.   Lets just say that I got lucky with these steam-punk googles we found at Nobbies.  They had black lenses in them that I popped out.  I was just happy that she kept them on.  

Pretty much everyone knew who Beckah was the moment they saw her.  Everyone LOVED her costume and I think she is the darn cutest Minion I have ever seen. Despicable Me is her favorite movie right now.  She will sit and watch the whole thing over and over again if we let her.  It's handy for when I need to get things done...like sew a minion costume.

Owen stayed in this halloween and didn't have a costume.  Next year he might be a Minion...

Our Halloween...

This year Halloween was a busy time for our family! We went to the pumpkin patch, played and found the perfect pumpkin (I am very much a pumpkin carving person and my pumpkins need to be just so...) here is what we ended up with! :o)

We had to modify the pattern Cadence wanted to be big enough for the face and, thanks to mom's pro art skills, then we were ready to get to the good part! Cutting!

Our Halloween festivities started on Thursday with our ward Trunk or Treat! Brady dressed up for that. Thursday our Master HOA (Providence) had Trick or Treating at the Promenade (a really long walking area between communities that is accessible at both ends and has a little play ground for the kids. Local businesses signed up to hand out candy and to give out information. It was really really fun! Then on Halloween we went to the Shark Reef and had a blast! That night we went to Grandma Suzi's Ward Trunk or Treat and had a blast! Grandma Vivian, Grandpa Randy, Aunt Cecily, Tyson, Uncle Colin, Aunt Heather, Saylor and Paisley were all there and we now have too much candy. Brady didn't join us since he was going on a "guys night" to see Frank Caliendo with all the boys in his family! He said it was awesome and I am glad that they got to have some fun before all of us head our separate ways! Pictures...

Halloween

Here is our Halloween saga...

Earlier this year Cadence wanted to be the Little Mermaid for Halloween. I looked and looked and finally found a costume and ordered it (got a pretty good deal with free shipping...can't beat that!). It arrived and Cadence was in total love with the costume and wore it all the time. I thought we were good.
About three weeks before Halloween Cadence started telling everyone that she wanted to be a witch. It got to the point were I finally took her to look for a witch costume. She picked one out and was excited about it. We gave the kid that worked at Party City the number and 20 minutes later they brought us the costume (it was busy...REALLY BUSY). We pull it out of the the bag and there is no hat and the light up sparkly part doesn't work. I ask if they have another one. Nope. So they sell it to me for half price. On the way home I remember that there is another Party City close to where we live so we stop by to see if they have a costume with a hat and that works. We wait and wait and wait (they were busy too and on top of the busy part they were very un-organized). Finally they have one for us and it works and has a hat! Yay! We go to exchange it and the kid working there just traded straight across for the new one. So I still got the complete costume for half price. Pretty nice.
We take the costume home and try it on. It was hard to get on and very itchy. Cady was upset. I fixed what I could and bought a leotard for her to wear under it so it wouldn't itch her. Night before our trunk or treat she wouldn't put it on. REFUSED very VIOLENTLY to put it on. Brady and I were at a loss, and I was a mess since it was unlikely that we would be able to take it back now. The next morning I pulled the costume out and Cady started to bawl.
Off we went to Target so see if maybe we could find another costume. Lucky for us they had a really cute witch costume in Cady's size.
That afternoon Cady let me curl her hair with the curling iron for the very first time. Here were the results. As my sweet sister-in-law would say, "Trouble on two legs."

She got to wear some of my make up as well. She was in girlie heaven! Here was my witch!

Rory was a witch too. I found the little beanie at Target in the dollar bins. Love those things. The onesie says "This is my costume."

We had a blast at the trunk or treat! Rory chilled with Dad the whole time and Cady had so much fun as we went from car to car. She also got to have some cotton candy, a hot dog, and a scone! I hope that everyone had a great Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Last night was Ryan and Megan's Wedding party and it was an awesome turn out! So many people dressed up and it was all around a great deal of fun!

Tonight was a total blast as well! We went to the Trunk or Treat at the church (it was a 4 ward trunk or treat this year! So many kids!) and we decorated a car. When it came time to trick or treat Cadence was excited but didn't really get it until after the first ten or so cars. Then she just "got" it. We were practically running from car to car. She filled up her Hello Kitty treat bag pretty fast! Anyway here are some pictures of Cadence in her darling Pirate costume!

Yes, yes...I know...she is the cutest Pirate you've seen since Johnny Depp...lol...really though she had so much fun getting dressed up!

And here is Cady with her buddy Kylee. Kylee is in my primary class and she and Cadence are very close. Cadence cries when Kylee has to go sit with her family in Sacrament Meeting. Anyway, Cadence had such a great time this year and I am really looking forward to next year when she might actually have an opinion about what she wants to wear! :o)

Pumkin Carving

We had some pumpkin carving fun tonight with Ryan and Megan, who are down visiting and getting ready for their All Hallows Eve Wedding Party! It is going to be a total blast, with everyone wearing costumes and a candy bar and just plain all around Halloween fun! Anyway, we carved three of the thirty or so pumpkins that we have for the party and had a great time! Cadence really didn't know what we were doing, but she was having fun watching for a while. When she got bored she pulled out her orange crayons and helped us "color" our pumpkins. She was really stoked when we lit them up though! I love Halloween. Next to Thanksgiving it is totally my favorite holiday. Here are some pictures of all the fun we had!

And that one is my mummy. We had some serious fun taking the pictures at the end. I am so glad that I got a tripod and when we started taking them we didn't notice the reflection at first. Way fun!
